Food Fortnight is back again in 2008! Now in its fifth year, the ever-popular food festival will take place from 1st November till 16th November, and already looks set to offer a tasty menu for all to enjoy.
Food Fortnight is a celebration of all things food in West Norfolk. Originally developed as a learning festival in 2003 the event has grown over the years into West Norfolk’s very own food festival with a difference. With a range of exhibitions, workshops, talks, courses and demonstrations taking place across the area the fortnight not only helps to demonstrate the link between food and health but also explores connections with history, science, art and culture. In addition it provides an opportunity to celebrate the best of West Norfolk, an area renowned for its restaurants, food production, agriculture and fishing industry. Whilst it has achieved national recognition as a learning festival, at its heart Food Fortnight remains a community event, which has also helped to establish and strengthen links between local organisations and encourage new business opportunities
Food Fortnight 2007 took place between 27th October and 10th November and saw over 5000 people from across West Norfolk and beyond taking part in an array of food themed events. The festival proved to be more successful than ever with over 100 local businesses, service providers, community groups and voluntary organisations working together to provide an exciting programme with a mix of old favourites and new activities. Without the generous support and enthusiasm of all those involved this programme would not have been possible. Many of these organisations have supported the project since it began whilst others were taking part for the first time.
Here are just some of the highlights from Food Fortnight 2007..........
Enthusiastic participants of all ages, found skin care from their larder, were taught how to make a successful pizza and a healthy lunch box, discovered the secrets of successful bee keeping as part of the 'Get Growing Your Own' event and satisfied an ‘Appetite for Archaeology’ by exploring the world of archaeology and food in the Fens. The ever-popular international food event ‘Around the World in Eighty Dishes’, held at Lynnsport, proved a magnificent launch to the fortnight. A record number of countries were represented with stalls, entertainment and plenty of mouth-watering dishes from across the globe available to try. Another hugely successful event took place at Hunstanton Town Hall, where visitors flocked to a Food Fayre to try and buy from stalls representing a host of local businesses. Meanwhile throughout the fortnight a number of restaurants across the borough offered special menus to link with the project.
Food Fortnight 2008 provides a great opportunity for any organisation to promote its work to a wider audience by offering an event with a food theme – the more innovative the better!
