 The story so far...

Work in the Southern Neighbourhood began in March 2009 with an initial consultation event at Ryston Golf Club. Since then a further two sessions have been held, full details of these can be found in our 'Southern Focus' newsletter on this page.

The initial driver behind this work was the results from the 2007 Quality of Life Survey. This survey was conducted across nine neighbourhoods in West Norfolk. The research was carried out to ensure that future actions and
resources are focused on those things that can really help people feel better about where they live. The results from the Southern Neighbourhood revealed a set of challenges that the West Norfolk Partnership is committed to understanding and tackling.

It was agreed at stage three that the group would support an
application to ‘Your Norfolk, Your Decision’* to help continue the work they started and add to the £49,000 that the West Norfolk Partnership has already made available. We can confirm that this application was successful and the West Norfolk Partnership has been awarded £36,750 to help make the actions from the events a reality.

The winning idea from the third session was a Youth Oppotunity Centre for the Southern Neighbourhood. A working group of volunteers from previous sessions along with key organisation put forward by attendees has been set up. This working group will take this idea forward. Further newsletters will be released as this work progresses.

It's not too late to become involved with this project. For more information please contact southernneighbourhood@west-norfolk.gov.uk.

*Your Norfolk, Your Decision is a participatory budgeting (PB) scheme where local people decide how to spend a proportion of public money. Norfolk County Strategic Partnership ran its PB Pilot in 2008 and funded 19 projects across Norfolk. In 2009 NCSP wants to get more people involved in local decision making and enable partners to hold their own PB pilots.
